I hated Lyrica too.. I gained so much weight & felt sleepy all the time. It also worsened my depression. Everyone's different, tho. Cymbalta helped to start with, but it was very expensive. I got breakthrough pain while on it, & weighing that against the cost, I went off Cymbalta too.. What helped me the most besides ice (cheapest solution) was a topical cream with Lidocaine & Gabapentin in it.. Applied whenever needed, it took the pain away within minutes, lasted hours for me & wasn't terribly expensive.. The doc can give you a prescription & you take it to a compounding pharmacy to make for you.. Takes a couple of days, but it was very helpful for me.. Wishing you luck that you find something that works.. We all deserve relief.. :)
On the road of discovery to see what is causing my PGAD.

when i was prescribed Lyrica I noticed almost immediately after taking it that I started having breakouts on my face. I have like 2 pimples on my forehead and my skin turning all redish. I had clear skin prior to this :cry: :cry:

I genuinely have no idea what's going on here! I had like 5 days with no symptoms (not doing anything differently btw) and now it's back again!! I don't know what to do. I wish this was a straight forward disorder.

@Violet

Could you please tell me more about the PN surgery that you did? This disorder is so depressing i don't want to live off of depressants my entire life. All i know about pn surgery is it removes your sense of arousal if you do it and im okay with that. I've made this decision a couple days ago when i had a friend messaging me why i don't hang out with her anymore it broke my heart :(.

Hello

Just a quick update. Had my hormones tested and things are all well on that front.

Been referred for CBT and to a dietician as the dr reckons my problem stems from ibs so we shall give that a go. I've started yoga and so far no flare ups.

I've found that lying down flat on my back with a pillow under my knees and a hot water bottle on my stomach really helps.

I'm feeling very hopeless today. It kills me that I can't have a normal relationship with my boyfriend and all specialist help is so far away from me and costs a lot.

The only thing that's keeping me going is the fact the dr said that because I'm young it probably won't take that long for the nerve to heal so that's the hope I'm holding onto.

Sorry that you have had some discouraging times. It is extremely difficult to be aware of triggers all the time, and sometimes none can be identified so we don't know what might have caused a flare... I hear you.
But, I think your doctor did have important advice, your age does help you recover faster with type of disorder (from what I have seen). Also, remember that sometimes you are symptom-free for about a week, so your body does know how to get there.
I came across a very inspirational documentary which helped me understand better the role of my mind and body in regards to health. Might be worth a look: https://www.theconnection.tv

Hey all.

Was just wondering if anyone has had any success with Amy Steins Heal Pelvic Pain book? I'm giving it a go to see if I can heal this awful disorder.

Leah, I had pudendal nerve decompression surgery which basically cut ligaments deep in the pelvis on each side that were impinging on the pudendal nerve and also cut away parts of ligaments attached near the sit bones that were impinging on the pudendal nerve. Surgery is not necessarily the answer for everyone though. It kind of depends on your history, the clinical exam, the response you have to PT, your response to pudendal nerve blocks, and a number of other factors as to whether surgery might be right for you. I don't really know enough about your case to make any suggestions but you do have lots of options to try.

Nesssiiee, some people do have improvement from PT so it is definitely worth a try. You do have to be careful though because if you really do have a nerve entrapment at I did, PT and exercises can make you worse so just proceed with caution.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
