Another possibility is piriformis syndrome. Since the sciatic nerve runs through the piriformis muscle if the pirformis muscle spasms it will give you burning/pain in your heels, pain down the back of your legs and calves. It will also give you a deep ache in your hip and can be painful to sit. A PT should be able to diagnose this. Having said that there are some dr.'s who believe PN can give you piriformis syndrome. So you can begin to see the cycle. If the PN causes piriformis syndrome then the piriformis syndrome can cause sciatica.

Even though your symptoms didn't start until about 3 months after surgery I don't find that surprising. It takes time for scar tissue to form and some individuals don't start having symptoms for 6-12 weeks after surgery. For me, after my hysterectomy I had some symptoms right away ie loss of voiding sensation but the numbness, tingling, burning, and stabbing pain in the right labia didn't start until about 12 weeks after the surgery.

Happy New Year! Nerve roots are the large nerves that branch off the spinal cord and exit through the neuroforamen, the holes in the spinal column. Some go toward the front of the body, some toward the back. The ones that go toward the back are called dorsal nerve roots. The pudendal nerve is made up of branches from S2, S3, S4.

Now, I have some questions. Does anyone have trouble leaning forward, like to pick something up from the table; or to brush your teeth? When I do, I feel a pulling that starts near the SI joint and travels all the way to the vagina? Then the entire rt. buttock gets all flared up and swollen. It actually gets bigger than the lt. one. It also inflames the "sit bone" pain. Is this PN pain or SI joint pain? I had my SI joint fused, and it has helped a lot with the SI pain, but what is this other pain???? PN or SI, or is it all the same thing? Thanks for any input!
