Best location for nerve block for urinary burning in a woman
What would be the best specific location for a nerve block for a woman with burning with urination as well as vulvar burning pain?
Re: Best location for nerve block for urinary burning in a w
Hi
I have vulva burning pain which is also irritated by urination - the joys of being a woman.
i had a nerve block done 3 years ago - it was unguided transvaginal at the Ischial spine - it didn't help me - the block contained an aneasthetic and steroid - the whole area swelled up during the weeks after - i guess the nerves had been irritated more and this was inflammation.
I was told the steroid may help but it didn't - a nerve block is more for diagnostics than anything else and then it is not foolproof.
I do not have burning on urination as such (urethral) but the urine does cause more vulva burning where it touchs the vulva skin so this may be different to you.

I am not sure one can say for sure what is the best location for the nerve block. For me, I have had multiple CT guided pudendal blocks, both at the ischial spines and at Alcock's Canal. Only when I got the Alcock's Canal nerve injection did the urinary burning temporarily stop.

nyt - are you better now after your surgeries?
Re: Best location for nerve block for urinary burning in a w
I have some symptoms that are gone, some improved, some symptoms no change and one new symptom. My new symptom is related to the fact that I also have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and surgery can spread CRPS which it did. I now have some CRPS symptoms in the incision sites. I am very thankful for the improvements I have.
In regards to the urinary burning symptom, the surgery did not improve that symptom. I am able to control it though by sitting on an ice pack and not sitting more than 30-40 minutes at a time. If I sit more than 40 minutes I know that it is going to burn the next time I urinate. Good thing I am not prone to UTI's as it would be difficult to tell the difference .
