Medications for burning & Hypersensitivity
Medications for burning & Hypersensitivity
What medications (or combo of medications) work best for burning & hypersensitivity? I'm currently taking 2300mg of Gabapentin per day and it seems like it is no longer effective since my burning has spread to my whole body after 7 years of remaining below the waist.
Re: Medications for burning & Hypersensitivity
What I found the most helpful - after - honestly trying everything - every oral med you can think of, injections - including sub Q botox -
and the fancy super expensive nerve creams every compounding phamarcy that has popped up over night - to sell you via your Pelvic pain specialist Rxs that cost insurance $1000's per month and us huge co- pays
was two creams my pain Dr perscribed- he suggested I try both and decide which I like best - I still use both as needed - one works better for burning - the other for spasms
both used 1-3 times daily - rub in to skin as best you can, place a simple infrared machine 10-30 mins at at time over the painful sites
Infrared machine ( bought from Amazon ) http://www.amazon.com/Infrared-Massager ... B000KVNQ00 Under $30 .
place the infrared bulb over the area for 10-30 mins , moving around as needed- This actually worked like a miracle - for me.
I did it religously for a few months, pain or not for a while- now I only use when I feel that pre burn coming on . Mostly with increased activity , sitting or walking .
This simple cheap combo , that goes directly to the area that is causing the issue- No systemic side effects that pills orally would cause. My Dr Rxs the pills themselves - then I crush 10-15 pills and mix into an ounce of cold cream ( any cream would do )
total cost is less than my $5 genetic co-pay .
One cream was 10 mg generic valuim #70 , the other 10 mg Medroxyprogesterone #70 count
one RX last about 3 months for me .
I used both on my buttocks, lower sacrum , inner thighs anywhere I was having burning
this has worked great - I can now wear whatever clothes I want - walk my dogs- * friction from walking was a huge trigger for pain flare before
the Key seems to be the Infared machine bringing the medication across the skin -
I had tried many different creams prior - the infrared seems to be the key difference
for vulvar pain - I imagine that using any of these or 5% lidocaine in a base of cell gel, versa or lipoderm would work well as well .
Its very impowering to know I can make plans and do normal things- knowing that w/ a slight burn I have some immediate control over it , just by laying down and using the cream and machine. Ive also experienced that I need to do it less and less. Only a couple times a week , not 3 times a day any longer
Hope this is helpful for someone else.
You can google these creams used this way are discussed here " pain creams and infrared '' heres a couple on it .

I esp like his PDF called " Intractable Pain Guide to Pain Free Hours "

with all the new cutting edge drug companies add creams to their pain medication list- One has to think they must be effectve for many patients- I like that my MD is sensible enough to use the ones that work , and cost the least amount of money .
One thing to note if buyng the infrared machine- is to order the extra bulbs- Mine tend to last about 3 months - so I try and order a few bulbs at a time so I don't run out .
