Anyone Know Anything About "Sports Hernias"?
Anyone Know Anything About "Sports Hernias"?
I ask because my new hip specialist wants me to see a doctor for core injuries (sports hernia, athletic pubalgia). The only problem being that the doctor doesn't take insurance. At all. There seem to be few options other than him, however, and I know very little about this. Does anyone have any information, experience, or advice regarding pelvic injuries such as this? Aside from the labral tear, which I also have? Argh.
Pain starting at ischial tuberosity 2013 (minor hamstring tendon tear); labral tear July 2013, referred pain to groin/bladder. Sept. 24th '13, tore my abdominal muscles and adductors at the pelvis; pain and spasms so bad I couldn't stand, walk, or go to the bathroom; misdiagnosed until Jan. 27th 14; double procedure 4/3/14, hip arthroscopy & muscle repair. One adductor still driving me nuts. Slowly working my way back to health & working to educate more about pelvic injuries/pathologies.

You can do a search on donstore's most recent posts on hernias. Do you know how much this doc want to charge? If you see this doc and pay up front can you turn in the claim to your insurance to pay you back? If not, and if you live in a large city maybe you can find another doc who takes insurance who can diagnose a possible hernia.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
Re: Anyone Know Anything About "Sports Hernias"?
Thanks, I'm seeing another one tomorrow. I've been through all the orthos here, as well as a uro-gyno. I'm beyond frustrated. They aren't seeing that I cannot do what I could before, acting like it's no big deal, etc. They all use just standard MRIs here which don't pick much up....maybe another with contrast? I'm more convinced after a Uro-Gyno appt. yesterday in which he called one of the top surgeons in the world for sports hernias a "shyster" and insisted that nothing is wrong with suddenly being unable to use my abs coupled with extreme lower abdominal pain (and genital). There IS something wrong, and constantly frustrating me by not listening to me isn't exactly making the situation any better!
I don't know, would you trust a surgeon operating on that part of your body who has very little experience or would you just spend the money and get the best treatment possible? I just don't trust endless months with doctors who are dismissive (at best) and don't seem to even understand what's going on....I'm frankly enraged by it. It's gaslighting, really.
Long story short, I no longer care. I'll pay and hopefully be reimbursed, but at this point I'd pay with no chance of reimbursement to have a doctor see me who knows what he's doing. This is madness. If someone has pain in the clitoris everything humanly possible must be done to diagnose and treat, IMHO, not just sending me onward to hope for the best and do PT when there's an underlying injury. I should be being stuck in every imaging machine in the city until they figure it out, not ignored.
Apologies for being this angry, but I'm REALLY angry!!!!

Another thing you might want to have checked is your psoas muscle. A good PT can tell you if it is overly tight and possibly contributing to your pain.

PS -- nevermind I just saw your other posts about the psoas.
