Minor update: Missed the call from Dr. Coleman, but talked to one of his assistants today, and apparently he is recommending that I be seen by him and a Dr. William Meyers both at Vincera Institute in Philadelphia. Coleman handles both hip and psoas, which are my identified problems, so he must think it's a bit more than that to bring in a groin injury specialist. Which also means my doctors here are really incompetent! I've been told multiple times in the last two weeks that this is all in my head and/or it's a "soft tissue issue" that they are unable to diagnose or handle. Or that I should just "live with it", by "it" they mean being disabled.
In which case, also, THANK YOU for recommending me getting my disks to Dr. Coleman, everyone!
Did labral tear surgery reduce your PN/pelvic/perineal pain?
Re: Did labral tear surgery reduce your PN/pelvic/perineal p
Pain starting at ischial tuberosity 2013 (minor hamstring tendon tear); labral tear July 2013, referred pain to groin/bladder. Sept. 24th '13, tore my abdominal muscles and adductors at the pelvis; pain and spasms so bad I couldn't stand, walk, or go to the bathroom; misdiagnosed until Jan. 27th 14; double procedure 4/3/14, hip arthroscopy & muscle repair. One adductor still driving me nuts. Slowly working my way back to health & working to educate more about pelvic injuries/pathologies.

Antonia,
Sounds like a breakthrough to the right doctors. So happy for you! Hope they have treatment and resolution. Let us know what they say.

I have chronic bunion pain surgery at age 21. TG gave me back enough sitting to keep my job & join in some social activities. I wish the best to everyone! 2019 luck with orthotics from pedorthist & great PT allowing me to get off oxycodone.

Hi Lernica,
How are you? Still going strong I hope.
I sent you a pm but have had problems with them in the past, so I have put my questions in the forum too. If anHere goes:
yone else has any imput I would be interested too.
I was just looking for a little advice, I guess. I had two fai/labrum scopes in july and december of last year. the first op reduced my PN pain and I had been feeling quite good after the second too until I flared last week. did you also have ups and downs or was it all uphill? I am finding it quite tough at the moment... taking a step backwards when i was already planning to introduce new (old really) activities and even work longer hours. i'm currently doing some PT with a specialist in Nantes who has been dealing with PN sufferers for over 20 years, but the pain came back prior to starting up with the PT. Any advice and/or similar experiences would be grealy appreciated. I remeber you saying that it took a long time before the nerve pain went away completely? I'm only 2.5 months out from the second op... Did you do a lot of PT? Sorry to bother you with all these questions, but I really feel as if you might be of help to me.
Kindest regards,
Al

I'm 37. Pain started suddenly in 2005 after heavy physical work. Had a two year period without pain between 2007 and 2009. Pain came back 2010 (too much yoga) and I finally got a diagnosis. Too many cortisone shots! No long term relief.I Don’t take many meds as pain rarely goes above 3 or 4. 2mg of valium once or twice a month. Recently diagnosed with bilateral fai and labral tears. Right side hip scope in July 2013...Second left side scope planned for later in the year...
Re: Did labral tear surgery reduce your PN/pelvic/perineal p
Oh my gosh, I can't even tell you how many ups and downs I had! Recovery from labral hip surgery is NOT a linear event! I remember thinking, four months post-op on my second hip, that I would never get better. I was in SO much pain.
You are only 2.5 months post-op! Please have patience. You will get better! But it is so important not to overdo things. Listen to your body and don't push it!
As for the PN pain, it took about a year after the last surgery to go away.
As for PT, I did it once weekly for about five months, each side. I think it is pretty important for recovery.
You're in France? Who did your surgeries? It is so hard to find a surgeon who does laparoscopic hip repair.
Best of luck with everything. You WILL get better!

Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Re: Did labral tear surgery reduce your PN/pelvic/perineal p
Hey, how long is the general recovery from an arthroscopic hip surgery for labral tear? I am finally facing the fear of the traction/soreness/crutches issue after finally getting a bit of activity back in my life here post-cortisone shot. I've read (on the HSS site) that it's usually 1-2 weeks on crutches.
What has been the general experience? I won't lie, I have been strengthening like crazy (upper body, walks much as I can take, probably more than I should). But I'm also coming from a place where 3 months ago I was so bad off I couldn't lift my head up without using my hands if laying on my back and was having to relearn how to go to the bathroom. Now I can walk a mile, even though I'm still injured. I want to keep going forward!! That's all!!
How bad is the traction soreness, in general? If no complications, how long do you have to hobble about before you can just take off the training wheels? I have NO idea what they're going to have to do with the sports hernia surgery, but I do know Meyers likes patients to walk a mile the day after it, so it can't be that debilitating (or does he want you to walk all stoned on pain meds...lol?). Just if I could get a general consensus, I am not expecting to be pain free necessarily, but how soon until you're up and about? Walking, etc. and feeling not sore from the surgery itself? Does the traction really leave you that sore, or just a few days?
I'm sorry I'm a plague of questions, I've never had surgery before. I walked almost 3 miles yesterday, and I could've cared less about the pain, it was so nice to just do it again. Someone tell me arthroscopic hip surgery is just no big deal and I'll be up taking a run in a month. Please?

Hi Ladies,
I am new to this group. Thank you for having me I just had left sided FAI Repair on Feb 27. This is a wonderful group I have learned so much from all of you. Like most of you pne hit me out of know where. Since last April. I also have a L5 bulging disc and tear on the same side. I have had total genital numbness inside and out and tailbone numbness with increased back pain and every deep muscle in my butt goes numb since the surgery. Has any of you had genital numbness after the surgery? My surgeon PA said I could have numbness for 4-6 weeks? My feet and heals go numb but only with sitting and laying on my back.
The am not able to do the cpm machine without having a flair. I want do it but am so afraid because I start to have numbness in my butt and then twisting of all the deep muscles in my butt. Physical therapy exercises are going well. Can't lay on my back side. I was able to do that prior to hip surgery.
If anyone has a tips to help me out. I would appreciate it.
Have a healthy day
Jen

Jen, sorry it's so bad for you! Just wanted to say hello. I'm personally hoping for no genital numbness after surgery, but realize that's kind of a pipe dream...lol.
Anyway, I wish I could help, but I can't, and saw your message sitting here for a while and just wanted to say hi, and offer support. Pain isn't something people should have to go through unsupported.

Jen, I haven't had that type of surgery so I'm not an expert on the subject but I don't remember anyone ever describing the numbness you have. I'm thinking I would contact the surgeon to find out if this is something to be concerned about.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hi there,
I had two fai/labral repair scopes last year but no genital numbness after surgery. Saying that, my surgeon here in france only used 10-15 minutes of light traction (a technique he is currently teacing to surgeons all over the world), so I wasn't expecting to have any numbness either. I hope things a at least a little better for you. Try to keep positive.
Much love,
Al

Re: Did labral tear surgery reduce your PN/pelvic/perineal p
Hi everyone,
I posted on this thread over a year ago trying to figure out if my PN could be caused by a hip issue. Long story short, I pursued other treatments and am just now looking into the possibility of a hip tear again. I had a regular hip MRI that showed everything was normal. Trying to convince my family physician to send me for a better test - MRA (or MRI with arthrogram) but he does not feel it is warranted. How can I convince him? Also, if I can get him to agree, does it matter where I have the MRA done? Are some places better than others?
My main symptoms for almost 5 years now have been burning nerve pain on the left side only, right along the labia majora and pelvic bone, tailbone pain if I sit without wedge cushion or drive too long, tenderness/sore bum along sacrotuberous ligament. My left leg is also shorter due to misaligned pelvis. What makes me suspect hip pathology is my inability to sleep on the affected side, generally feeling unstable having to prop myself up on a counter or left leg up on stool if standing in one place, RMT always mentions really tight left side around hip and psoas.
Thanks!

Chronic pain since '09. Current symptoms: burning pain at left ischium when sitting, pelvic floor heaviness/tightness, cannot sleep on left side, pressure on bladder, pain worse with sitting/lifting anything heavy/pulling open doors, unable to wear tight pants, pain is intermittent; sometimes a dull ache, other times burning/pulling/pinching. Amitriptyline and ice helps. Diagnosed with labral hip tear 2014, considering surgery.
