Hello everyone,
I had surgery with Dr. Weiss on Thursday. Bilateral fixation and left piriformis release. Had severe PS..The post-op pain from the release is excruciating. Dr. Weiss did my consult and evaluation on Monday and commented that he felt I may have labral tear on left side. He ordered me an MRI and it showed a small tear. From the xrays he did on Monday, he found hip impingement on left. I have to wait and see what my pain is after this swelling goes down. He recommended a Dr. Byrd in Nashville. I know a lot of members have been diagnosed with these conditions and I have a lot of reading to catch up on. Except from the pain caused by surgery my hips feel better. I haven't done anything about pn since seeing hibner for block and sclerozation. Now, I may be dealing with labral tear and impingement next. Don't know yet...

Hello Rea,
I do not know much about Pereformis release. I wish you all the best. For any operation you go through period when you get worse but I wish better days are coming.
I had labral tear repair at September 18th. I have 4 pinky size holes in my leg. Initially it was very swollen and I had to use walker and crutches for 3 weeks with 50 percent of the weight on operated leg. That was depressing. I am doing strengthening PT and it will follow with SI joint dysfunction PT because they dislocate joint internally and can easily move SI when do operation. They also press on pudendal nerve area during operation for joint dislocation. My surgeon said that it is important to pad it well and to do it for the shortest period possible. Internally operation is not so small as it looks from outside. For me they removed 3 spurs, polished head of femur, did partial bursectomy, repaired labrum, repaired ripped facia.
Now I can walk for an hour, I do a lot of exercises, I am off morphine, and take less other medications. I still cannot sit. But I have heard from my PN PT that it takes long time for nerve to restore.
Please, select your surgeon and hospital carefully. Some do big scars, remove labrum, bursa without hesitation and put you on traction for a long time. I have heard that Hospital for special surgeries in NY is very good. Locally in Detroit I was operated by Dr Farjio. He is the best in this area and I did not risk to travel.
It is very important to arrange for both first and second PT before operation. Your strengthening PT will be impacted by your other condition and you therapist should be thoughtful and willing to talk to doctor's office and maybe PN PT.
If I can be helpful, please, do not hesitate to PM me.
Helen

Re: sijd and piriformis surgery
Hi Everyone,
I need to know if anyone has seen a doctor in Northern California, who specializes in Hip Labral Tears ?
I noticed on my MRI, that I have a Hip Labral Tear, and I want to rule out if this contributing to my PN/PNE.
I have looked online, but would prefer to have doctor who knows if there is a correlation with PN/PNE...
Thanks Velma

Helen,
Thank you so much. Yes, that is very helpful to know. I was given the name of Dr. Byrd in Nasville, Tn. Pain management and my PT for aftercare of si fixation and PR also encourages me to wait. I do not have a PN PT. Where I live makes that an impossible goal. But lately, I'm back to despair and depressed. Been diagnosed with 8 different pelvic conditions. I can't keep this up.
Rea
I'm sorry you've went through so much. You're a stronger woman than I. I hope your days keep getting better.
