Zannax-want to stop taking it

Post by missyrg »

I have been taking zannax for 8 months becuase I clinch my body which makes the pain worse. My new pain dr lowered my dosage but I would perfer to get off it and use as needed. I started taking 1/2 pill twice a day instead of a pill twice a day. I take Cymbalta 60mg, Nucynta 100 mg 4 times per day, zanaflex as needed. I want to stop taking so many meds. Any advice is welcomed.

I do think it would be a good idea to discuss this with your doctor. When you are on a mix of drugs like that, it is probably best not to try changing things around without professional advice.

I think a lot of us wish we could manage without taking so many meds - I know I do, I wish this whole business just wasn't happening. I don't like taking the meds, but without them it is hard for me to function.

Talk to your doctor, hopefully he will be able to get you on a drug regimen that you are comfortable with.

Whenever I wished to come down in my medication my pain doctor was very respectful of my wishes and took me out of it slowly. He said he was happy to be guided by me and he pointed out that he believed I have good understanding of what medications I need and what I don't need. He did respect the fact that I spoke to him first before I made the decision to make the change to a lower dose. I was guided by his instructions as some of these drugs could cause major problems if stopped suddenly.
I would suggest talking to your doctor before stopping any medication. Usually the dose would be reduced for a few weeks before finally stopping altogether.

Thanks for the replies! I am not stopping cold turkey. Actually my primary dr had me on it 3x per day and my pain dr change d it to 1x per day. I had no choice but to cut back. Since I am cut back I decided to get off them slowly. My dr is not personal and his nurse is mean. I am thinking about changing drs. Thanks for your help!
