Central Sensitization -- Do I Have It?
Central Sensitization -- Do I Have It?
How do i know whether i have Central Sensitization? The first time that i had this problem I got 80% improvement from PT and a releasing my pelvic floor and amatriptaline got me to 95% pain free, but my hip continued to hurt and wasn't helped with amatripyline or PT. In my recent flare, PT doesnt help -- only makes it worse. My PT says my Obturator is tight – but it doesn’t reduce the pain to release it. Neurontin helps – even the hip pain, but doesn't take the all the pain away. My PT told me since my pain gets worse when someone pokes my vaginal area -- that i don't have central sensitization?? Is this true? There are so many options to address the pain -- but some make CS worse, I need a bit more direction. Is there a good source of information on CS??

Re: Central Sensitization -- Do I Have It?
Beverly, here is a technical article from one of the leading "experts" on this topic.

If you go down to this section: "central sensitization and the clinical pain phenotype" it describes how to determine if a patient has central sensitization. It's a bit complicated it sounds like.
Pelvic floor release made me worse before I had PNE surgery so I understand how frustrating this must be for you. I hope you can find some answers.
Best,
Violet

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
