hi
just wanted anyone who has had pudendal nerve surgery to let me know how long it was after surgery before they had any pain reduction. i have been told by dr greenslade that its not guaranteed that i will have any improvement and it could take 2 years before i see any improvement, this seems a really long time to still be in this pain and i dont know if i can handle that

how long after surgery before pain free
Re: how long after surgery before pain free
Hi Andrea,
I had my surgery in Turkey, with the laparoscopic approach.
Every pdrson is sooo different but this was my recovery.
First three months worse
Next three months back to pre op levels.
Six to nine months slow but steady improvement.
I am now ten months and Iwouls say about 30% to 40% bettef, but still have some bad days.
This is not a quick fix, Isuppose that were a spinal cord stimulator has an advantage.
Its a tough decision Ihope this is helpful
Regards Molly

Andrea,
Molly has a good start for those 9 months that sounds close to mine. I am at 22 months wow that seems long, but still not pain free and not sure when that might be - never give up hope! I am having some new improvements but maybe just the new meds. I started a new pain clinic last month and switched from neuronton to lyrica and added fentanyl patch. Also last week started water therapy. All is helping except had to back off some therapy that hurt my hips and agitated the nerve a bit. Hoping no bad affects after today's session.patience has a new defiinition but hang in there it will get better.

2007-08 pelvic muscles spasms treated by EGS. 6/27/10 sat too long on hard chair- spasms, EGS not work Botox help, cortisone shots in coccyx help, still pain, PT found PNE & sent me to Dr Marvel nerve blocks & MRN, TG left surgery 5/9/11. I have chronic bunion pain surgery at age 21. TG gave me back enough sitting to keep my job & join in some social activities. I wish the best to everyone! 2019 luck with orthotics from pedorthist & great PT allowing me to get off oxycodone.
Re: how long after surgery before pain free
Andrea, the first few months were hard but by the 9th month I was able to go off of narcotics and by the 18th month I could pretty much count on a low pain day. Since then I've continued to have slow improvements -- mostly increased sitting and exercise tolerance.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
