Hi all
I saw the pain consultant yesterday and he wants me to try Ketamine cream on my vulva as a localised treatment to calm the nerves.
The pharmacy here (UK) are going to make it up for me - i am quite reticent to use it as the carrier itself may cause more irritation.
I have read on here that others have used similar creams on the anal area and genitalia as a compounded cream with other medication such as amitriptyline.
Is there anyone using just ketamine in a cream ?
Please could you give me the formulation (if it is for the nether regions) so i can make some comparison once i get my cream.
I will put my results of using it and the formulation i get on here - as i am going to have to try it. !

Ketamine cream
Re: Ketamine cream
Yes, I used a Ketamine cream. The bottle says 20% Ketamine in PLO.
It does not irritate too much. Some of it does get in the blood stream and you can feel a bit loopy so be careful and experiment at bedtime at first.

Thank you for finding your bottle and a quick reply Ezer.
I've just looked up what the PLO base is. Will take heed of your warning

Re: Ketamine cream
There is a prescription cream that is made of Doxepin (a tricyclic antidepressant) to relieve itching. It is called Zonalon and you could mention it to your doctor. It was prescribed to me by Dr.Weiss, the pelvic pain specialist in San Francisco.

Re: Ketamine cream
I use a compounded cream that contains Ketamine 10%/Lidocaine 5%/Gabapentin 6% but I don't know what the base is. I use it on my adductors and my incision from my last surgery. It has worked wonders on my incisional pain. I know my pelvic pain specialist Dr. Howard plans on trying this combination on his patients with vulvodynia as he thinks it would help them.

Re: Ketamine cream
Hi Ezer
Thank you i will look it up - to be honest i don't really want to use any more creams on what is such a sensitive area. I have used several already as at first i saw a gynaecologist before realising that irritated nerves were the initial problem. Information on this website pointed me in the right direction.
Hi Nyt
Thank you - umm that is interesting - the ketamine cream is a 'trial' for my pain consultant - i can't get a straight answer from him as to if it will benefit or make things worse for a woman of my age- postmeno - when your vulva is not in the happy condition it used to be ! guess i am a guinea pig - i am going to be cautious with this now.
Thank you both for caring from so far away - sometimes it is hard to believe the internet

Re: Ketamine cream
I am just posting this as an update for anyone in a similar position who may be interested.
I have collected the Ketamine Cream - it is 10% w/w Ketamine in Unguentum Merck Ointment.
This is to use on the hypersensitive skin of my vulva where some nerves are buzzing away and causing muscle spasm - i am taking gabapentin and nortriptyline already.
At the moment i am in a stand off with the 250g pot of it at the end of the table - as i am reluctant to even try it.
If the pot wins i will update again to say if the cream helped or not - it may be some time........

Re: Ketamine cream
Well good luck Rosemary.
I can understand your reluctance, but the again nothing ventured. . . . . Sorry if that sounds like too easy a statement and trite (I don't mean it like that), but that would always be my own take on it, obviously however, you know your own body and pain better than anyone else.
I can just picture the standoff. . . . .
Please do let us know how it goes when/if the pot wins.
Take care,
Helen
