It is worth mentioning that CBT can be useful but has strong limitation for chronic pain. Chronic pain is not pleasant any way you look at it and it can sometimes be counterproductive to try to change your thoughts regarding your situation.
A psychologist I talked to mentioned that ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and ISTDP (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy) are more worthwhile for chronic pain. They are a more in depth type of psychotherapy that try to address some of the internal hidden source of strain that aggravate chronic pain while CBT stays at a superficial level.
