I read a comprehensive and well made Canadian study on the effect of daily meditation on chronic pain.
It was found that people that practice daily meditation experience in average an 18% decrease in perceived pain. Most of the chronic pain participants eventually abandoned meditation after 4 years.
It is interesting that the 18% pain reduction mirrors roughly the Stanford/Wise Anderson protocol 2011 study that reported a pain reduction from a 4/10 to a 3/10 average. Any pain reduction is of course a good thing but it looks like daily meditation is not the path to a completely pain free life.
