I think most people with PN issues have had the runaround. PT thru Peter Dornan was the end of a long journey for me and its the only thing so far that has given me any improvement. Fact is I don't have anything else to turn to. I feel Idon't have PN entrapement otherwise I'd have pain 24/7. There are times when I have little or no pain usually after I get up in the morning--it comes on later especially after (but not during) a bowel motion. The good thing about sites like this is you learn you are not alone.

Sounds exactly like me, i have 24x7 burning rectal pain....i have to really push myself each day to exercise but i still do it...some have advised me to stop exercising all together and give my body time to heal but its not in my nature being a runner/cyclist since my youth

These days i push myself to do physio exercises...some small weights and walking with the occasional short run all the while taking painkillers which hardly seem to work so far

Well I am actually at the wesley in brisbane today...seeing pain specialist and probably organising appoint with dr Lumley. I actually started my physio yesterday with instructions passed on from Peter Dornan....However i feel his manipulations are nowhere near as strong when i saw Peter. So i will follow this up...i am going to attend every 2 weeks for physio for at least 3 months

Certainly i find anything else that helps i will let you guys know

Physio guy i am seeing is based in Maryborough but is originally from brisbane. James Rossiter, He follows a lot of peters programs for physio after prostate surgery...He is treating me for SIJD following peters directions

I am going to give that Dr Peter Georgius Suite 4, Noosa Central, Pain specialist a call on Monday and see what he offers besides painkillers as suggested by Catherine thanks.

My current pain specialist in Brisbane doesn't want me on Valium at all its just that I have a few packets from a script my GP gave me ages ago which I use conservatively. If it works I am going to take it, after all he's not the one in pain.

I have had a bit of a pain flare lately, my physio gave me some exercises to stretch my overly tight piriformis is muscles which made things worse, so am currently taking 75mg x 3 lyrica/ day and 2.5mg Valium 2-3 times a day to manage. I really think the Valium is the most effective for me of the lot. I am even getting sciatic like pain down the back of my leg at the moment with it. I've already had a lumbar MRI to rule out back problems as well which was all clear.

I am also even considering travelling to Sydney eventually if this goes on to see the clinic down there, I'd really like to get back to a Normal lifestyle one day. As far as I'm concerned the treatment options we have up here in QLD are just not good enough. In my case just managing the symptoms is not enough as its too restrictive on my lifestyle even with the pain meds.

The sciatic pain down the back of the leg is most likely due to piriformis syndrome. The piriformis muscle spasms around the nerve. It is a common symptom in individuals with piriformis syndrome. You might want to see about TENS unit for the piriformis syndrome. Sometimes you need to get trigger point injections into the piriformis to get it to settle down.
