I just want to share that I have been recently diagnosed with 2 different types of hernias. My dr feels these hernias are the main source of my pain and so I have scheduled to have surgery for them in mid February. I just received a copy of the ultrasound and report and thought I would share the findings here so others may be aware of the hernia component to this pain.
"Small amount of omental tissue protrudes medial to the right femoral vein over the right pectineus muscle during Valsalva maneuver. A tongue of omental tissue projects along the inguinal canal during Valsalva and follows the right inguinal canal. This finding is likely due to a tiny indirect inguinal hernia.
IMPRESSION: Suspicion of small right indirect inguinal and right femoral hernias."

Re: Hernia
Hi Griff!
I'm sorry to hear about the hernia's, but kind of excited, too. I hope this is the cause for your groin pain. Have you decided on a surgeon, yet?
Was your US internal, or external? Did they have you move at all during the imaging?
Checking for hernia's is on my "to do" list for this spring. I'm hoping it'll give me an explanation, too!
Please keep us updated ...
Kind regards,
Karyn

Ultra Sound in 03/08 showed severely retroverted, detaching uterus with mulitple fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Pressure and pain in lower abdomen and groin area was unspeakable and devastating.
Total lap hysterectomy in 06/08, but damage was already done.
EMG testing in NH in 04/10 - bilateral PN and Ilioinguals
3T MRI at HSS, NY in 09/10
Bilateral TG surgery with Dr. Conway on 03/29/11. Bilat ilioinguinal & iliohypogastric neurectomy 03/12. TCD surgery 04/14.

Re: Hernia
The US was external and I was lying down for it. The way that the hernias were elicited was with the Valsalva maneuver. Basically the radiologist had me put the back of my hand to my mouth and blow, but not release air. This would cause the tissue to balloon out of the hernia.
I have chosen to see Dr. Meyers in Philadelphia for my surgery.

Oh, yes! I remember you explaining that before. Sorry!Griff522 wrote:The way that the hernias were elicited was with the Valsalva maneuver. Basically the radiologist had me put the back of my hand to my mouth and blow, but not release air. This would cause the tissue to balloon out of the hernia.
I wish you the very best with the surgery!

Re: Hernia
A few years ago I was told I had a hernia. I looked up the symtoms on the internet and was suprised to find that they were a lot of the pains that I thought
were PNE. I was excited to have operation thinking it would help with the groin pain I was having. I had operation, and it did not help much. I hope
you have better luck.

Re: Hernia
Hi Ray,
Did you ever find out what the cause of your groin pain was? Do you have any hip pathology?
Best,
Karyn

Re: Hernia
Sunil and Ray, I do appreciate your feedback. From what I've read, hernias that do not cause pain do not necessarily need to be repaired right away. But according to Web MD "If you have a hernia, it will not heal on its own. Surgery is the only way to fix a hernia. " So whether these hernias are causing my pain or not, I feel they need to be repaired in order to rule out their contribution to my pain. I also have been diagnosed with a labral tear in my rt hip. That too could be causing some of the pain. So if my pain is still unbearable after the hernia surgery, I will address the hip problem.
Sunil, I have been treated for SIJD and it did cause my pain to localize to the right side. So I am aware of that pain contributor too.

Re: Hernia
What causes my groin pain? That is the million dollar question. I don't have an answer.
Have been treated for PNE. I would give anything to be in the condition I was in before this treatment began.
The cortizone shot and 1st PNE operation made things way worse.

Re: Hernia
Just wanted to update this thread. I had surgery and the dr did not find traditional hernias. He found a large tear that extended down toward the adductor. He explained to me that hernias or tears are very difficult to see "diagnostically". If you are interested in learning more about him here is a link to his website http://www.vinceracorephysicians.com/Overview.html
