Hi
Just curious if anyone has info/news on his past surgical patients, or if and when he will might be doing more PN surgeries?
Anyone know if he will even do a consult at this time?
Debbie
Any updates on Dr. Hal Martin and PN surgery?

I don't know details -- just that he's not doing surgeries yet. I heard he went to Houston to observe but this is hearsay.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Re: Any updates on Dr. Hal Martin and PN surgery?
Dr Martin seems to concentrate on piriformis syndrome or deep gluteal syndrome as he terms it (and hip surgery) but has performed PN release when needed, along side sciatic nerve decompression in the pelvis. I think he has done a PN decompression separately but that was as a follow on surgery after a sciatic pelvic decompression.

Fall 2008. Misdiagnosed with lumber spine problem. MRN June 2010 indicated pudendal entrapment at Alcocks canal. Diagnosed with complex variant piriformis syndrome with sciatic, pudendal and gluteal entrapment's by Dr Filler 2010.Guided piriformis botox injection 2011 Bristol. 2013, Nerve conduction test positive; new spinal MRI scan negative, so diagnosed for the 4th time with pelvic nerve entrapment, now recognised as Sciatic, pudendal, PFCN and cluneal nerves at piriformis level.

Helen (or anyone),
Do you know if Dr Martin will do PN decompression at the same time as arthroscopic hip surgery? I have labral tears in both hips, ischiofemoral impingement (which I can't find much about AT ALL), and some femoroacetabular impingement (CAM) as well. It would obviously be nice to have the scar tissue on my ST ligament and posterior alcocks removed at the same time, but I don't know if that is even possible!

-11/08 vulvodynia began around conception of first & only pregnancy
-3/10 sacral/sitting pain began after SIJD manipulation
-Progressive widespread pain- central sensitization
-PT, meds, injections, botox, ESWT = debilitated.
-5/12 Potter MRI - scarring of left ST, coccygeous & posterior alcock
-12/12 - left FAI/labral hip tear surgery
2014-2019 managed w/ gabapentin, massage, and lifestyle mod
2020 - big flare up

Re: Any updates on Dr. Hal Martin and PN surgery?
All I know faith is that he has done both operations but I have no clue if they could be done together. I would try and find out a bit more from http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pi ... =dir&slk=8
There are a few people that have had surgery with Dr Martin on that site including Laura the moderator. Sorry, you probably already know that. I haven't kept up with what is being posted on there recently BUT there has been a bit of controversy as one lady in particular has not been happy with her surgical outcome with Dr Martin.
I would say that at least Dr martin would be able to 'cover all issues' for a diagnosis as he has done both surgeries and from all accounts does listen and to properly get to the real issue(s) without being stuck in his own speciality (hips) as so many clinicians can be.
As Violet says he has moved practices apparently. Laura (or others there) may be able to give you more info.
One day we may not be searching
Take care,
Helen

Hi,
I guess Martin has not yet mastered the pudendal surgery. I consulted him on June and he diagnosed me with Pudendal entrapment at Obturator Internus. He told me at that time that he cannot help me, because he cannot reach that far with his technique. So he referred me to Dr Antolak.

I too was told I had an entrapment at the obturator internus/distal entrapments by Dr. Martin. He must have just set up a new protocol, as he is in a new location. He offered me PT, nerve blocks by a pain management doctor, and pain counseling. He said I could also see Dr. Antolak if needed, but he did not offer surgery. I saw him mainly for my hip issues. I was impressed that he found more issues with my hips (such as a congenital malformation) than with another doctor. I still have more tests before I will know what all is wrong with my hips/pelvis. I am supposed to have blocks done at the alcocks canal with steroids, I believe. Dr. Martin feels there is a 70% chance of helping, surgery 30% chance (with a distal entrapment I guess.). I would love if it helped!!! Otherwise, surgery will be needed as my nerve is neuropathic, not just neuralgic.
