Nerve Block Scheduled
Nerve Block Scheduled
If everything goes okay, which is not how it has been going for me, I'm to have a nerve block on the 19th. Have to be driven 5 hrs. one way. My family doc won't fill out early disability papers with me even if he had all the proof he needed in front of him. He told my mother about the pudendal nerve and then when he sees me "I don't know about the nerve." Pain management nor neurologist will do it...now if I saw flying pink elephants, that'd be a different story. Hey, there goes one
Symptoms began 6/27/12. Diagnosed with Vulvodynia.Estrace and Lidocane with no relief.
Uretha enlarged Aug. 2012. MRI of Lumbar in Sept. 2012.Normal. Did MRI 3 Tesla of ischial spine to Sacro Spin- Normal. Houston-Nerve Block 10-31-12 & MRI (MRN) entrapment of perineal branch, more on right side. Dr. Hibner- block of perineal branches and sclerozation w/relief over 1 month. SIJD/Piriformis Syndrome Left Side. Gabapentin 2400 mg.

Re: Nerve Block Scheduled
If there is a doc near you who does the PNMLT (pudendal nerve motor latency test), it tends to convince some of the skeptics.
pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

No. Wish there was. Still waiting on Houston to call though. They do them there. Going to just have to start the narcotics and get use to them I guess so maybe I can work. What am I saying? I have to work or I'll lose everything. This sucks is an understatement.

Rea, how much gabaptentin are you on now? I didn't see any benefit from it till I reached 1800mg daily. Do you have any idea how you got PN? My personal advice is really make sure you know as much as you can about why you have PN (research till you're blue in the face) and try every conservative measure you possibly can before you try PN decompression. Just because a doctor is in your network insurance wise does not mean that insurance will cover PN decompression. Many insurance companies think PN decompression is experimental and therefore will not cover it. There is a doctor in Nashville who offered me PRF (pulsed radiofrequency) and if you have a good response to the pudendal block this might be an option for you. Also have you tried extenseive PT yet? I would give it at least 16 weeks of Pt with a good pelvic floor PT. Also have you been checked for sacroiliac joint dysfunction or labral hip tears? PM me if you want to talk more.
-11/08 vulvodynia began around conception of first & only pregnancy
-3/10 sacral/sitting pain began after SIJD manipulation
-Progressive widespread pain- central sensitization
-PT, meds, injections, botox, ESWT = debilitated.
-5/12 Potter MRI - scarring of left ST, coccygeous & posterior alcock
-12/12 - left FAI/labral hip tear surgery
2014-2019 managed w/ gabapentin, massage, and lifestyle mod
2020 - big flare up

Is the PRF a good idea if someone has entrapment? I think my sitting and the fall I had caused entrapment.Faith wrote:Rea, how much gabaptentin are you on now?
