Spine-health.com shows the benefit of heat on healing and pain. Heat prevents pain signals getting to the brain, since they use the same pathways. I have recently gone with applied heat 24/7 by using disposable back wraps. My source is from CVS where they have a variety of styles. I use a 12 hour stick to the skin style. I am getting all the benefits of those on the spine sight. Give it a try.
I also use an ultrasound with the following doctor generated protocol. Place the ultrasound head over a TP and slowly turn it up until you get a sensation of burning on the skin (not real burning). From there turn it down to 1/2 power. Hold it there for 3 minutes, and move on to the next TP. Over TP's, the skin will be more sensative. You will be able to feel the softening taking place. This works to deactivate the TP. The ultrasound recommended is an Amrex U/20 that costs 1100 and requires a doctors script.
I also have on order compression shorts from Goode Wrap. The claim the the rare earth metals that the use reduce trigger points and relaxes muscles. Time will tell.

i sit on heating pad almost all day. helps my sphinter to relax and not be so tight
