Confusing initials
Confusing initials
I'm confused by all the initials used to describe various conditions and diagnoses. I've searched the site for somewhere to find definitions but was unsuccessful. Are other newbies confused too? Where might I look? The more we learn about this condition the better able we are to figure out our own situations. Thanks for any help you can give.

I don't think we've got a list anywhere, Judy. Which initials come to mind as being puzzling?

Nearly everything is a mystery when you're first starting down this road Calluna. Examples of whar I meant are initals like PGAD that are discussed in threads and some like TOT and LAVH at the bottom of postings in patient histories. Many I have been able to figure out from the anatomy section but others escape me. Thank you so much for monitoring this forum.

I don't know all of those but I can tell you PGAD is persistent genital arousal disorder and SIJD is sacroiliac joint dysfunction. RSD is reflex sympathetic dystrophy, but that seems to have been mainly replaced with CRPS - complex regional pain syndrome. both are terms describing central nervous system (CNS)sensitization.

pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

TOT is trans-obturator sling surgery, this procedure is done to relieve stress incontinence.
LAVH is laparascopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy.

Sorry, I haven`t got any initial explanations to add. But knowing all the various terms is going to be helpful in trying to fathom out what`s what!

PFCN = Posterior Femoral Cutaneous Nerve
TG = Transgluteal
STL = Sacrotuberous Ligament
SSL = Sacrospinous Ligament
Ultra Sound in 03/08 showed severely retroverted, detaching uterus with mulitple fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Pressure and pain in lower abdomen and groin area was unspeakable and devastating.
Total lap hysterectomy in 06/08, but damage was already done.
EMG testing in NH in 04/10 - bilateral PN and Ilioinguals
3T MRI at HSS, NY in 09/10
Bilateral TG surgery with Dr. Conway on 03/29/11. Bilat ilioinguinal & iliohypogastric neurectomy 03/12. TCD surgery 04/14.

Fall 2008. Misdiagnosed with lumber spine problem. MRN June 2010 indicated pudendal entrapment at Alcocks canal. Diagnosed with complex variant piriformis syndrome with sciatic, pudendal and gluteal entrapment's by Dr Filler 2010.Guided piriformis botox injection 2011 Bristol. 2013, Nerve conduction test positive; new spinal MRI scan negative, so diagnosed for the 4th time with pelvic nerve entrapment, now recognised as Sciatic, pudendal, PFCN and cluneal nerves at piriformis level.
