Hi, I'm Janet from Italy.
I probably have PN, but I haven't got a reliable diagnosis yet, so
some time ago I tried to make a reservation to have a MRI performed by
Dr. Hollis Potter at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY.
Unfortunately, they told me that Dr. Potter would just read the MRI
and write the report, but I would never meet her. This is not what
I expected, I think that this hospital isn't Dr. Potter's main
location anymore.
I really need to find a hospital where the MRI is performed with her
assistance, and where I can discuss the findings with her, ask her for
suggestions, and so on. Money is not the matter.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you very much.
Janet

Re: DR Potter Fees
Janet,
I just had the Potter's MRI and i had my report back. I did not meet Dr. Potter but was told my doc could talk to her re: questions. I was initially informed by my insurance Dr. Potter is out of my network. However, my copay is only about $22.00. Hopefully, it was not a mistake.
Take care,

Welcome Janet
Sorry, I have no info about the potter scan to answer your question.
I know that this scan is the best available but because many doctors do not find any imaging helpful, as this type of imaging is in its infancy, I would question if any scan is so absolutely necessary.
If money is not a problem please 'go for it' but just realise that many doctors do not recognise this as helpful. If nothing does show you have spent a lot of money and got no further forward. I honestly think that a good knowledgeable clinical examination can give you a PN diagnosis far better than a scan. The two together may be a bonus but not just the scan alone.
As Dr Antolak says on the attachment here http://www.pudendalhope.info/forum/view ... =23&t=3479 PN is quite easy to diagnose.
It is the second attachment down ics-glasgow-diagnosis PN.pdf
You may have explored all of this already of course, sorry if that is the case.
A Potter scan may give a better guide as to where a person has a problem with the nerve if that is in doubt. I would just hate people to spend a fortune thinking they would get definitive answers. Please let us know how you get on. Good luck.
Take care,
Helen

Re: DR Potter Fees
Hi,
HSS is Dr. Potter's main location. I have now had two MRIs read by her. She reads the scans and writes the reports, but you do not get to meet with her. I believe that your docotr can contact her with questions though. That is just the way she operates. I'm not sure if thats how all radiologists work, but I know it takes a lot of time to read the scans and write the reports, so that might be why you cannot talk to her at the same time as you get the scan, she doesn't know the results yet. Just a thought.
Good luck,
Jackie

Started with vulva itching 2/11. Diagnosed as vulvodynia and then PN in 01/12. Progressed to sitting pain and constant burning. Received 4 nerve blocks with only temporary relief, did year of pelvic PT before being diagnosed with bilateral FAI and hip labral tears 7/12. Did orthopedic PT 1.5 years. 3/13 Arthroscopic hip surgery at HSS with Dr. Kelly. Take cymbalta and lyrica daily. About 97% better than worst point thanks to combo of surgery and meds. Yay!
Re: DR Potter Fees
Hi Janet,
I wouldnt be concerned about meeting Dr. Potter. Any x-ray, MRI, CT is performed by a technician as ordered by your physician and then read by the radiologist (Dr Potter). They are not paid to meet the patients, they are paid to look at and interpret the films. I've had many x-rays and MRIs (lots of wasted money) and never once met the Radiologist. I would suggest that you request a copy of the report for your records. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Re: DR Potter Fees
One of my friends who had the Potter MRI purchased the CD of the MRI for $50. Radiologists don't typically prescribe treatments -- they just read the images. So I'm not sure how helpful it would be to meet with her anyway.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Re: DR Potter Fees
You have a really, really good and really can recommend? Even away from N.Y. ....
tank's a lot.....
BUT 'A MY FRIEND, ABOUT 10 MONTHS AGO', MADE A DOCTOR WITH MRI POTTER AND SHE EXPLAINED THE RESULTS.
The same thing the last time, and also with other people with I have spoken.
And is recently that she does not explain more' MRI .
For me is very important because j haven't a referring physician in Italy.
(I have seen many doctors, they are very famoust for pudendal problems, but I have only made things worse)
My problem 'was caused by pudendal bloks made in Italy by the "Dr." Ezio Vincenti of Padua, he' s one of the many "famous" for pudendal neuropathy ...
I would like to understand what I really have ..... and maybe the doctor Potter she receives in private in his study .... maybe ...
Tank's to all the people that have write me.
Ciao, Janet
