New Contact information for Houston Team

Post by Violet M »

Message received from Dr. Renney on May 1, 2012:

We need to let you know of an important change to the Houston program for Pudendal Nerve Entrapment patients.

Beginning May 1, 2012, Dr. Renney will turn over coordination of new PNE patient screening, scheduling and consults to Dr. Phillip Phan, a pain management specialist who is affiliated with Dr. Popeney. Dr. Renney will continue to coordinate follow up care for those patients who have been seen in Houston by him. Those patients already seen in Houston can still communicate with Dr Renney by Telehealth Connection.

Dr. Renney always found it very rewarding to assist patients with this condition, and this was definitely a difficult change to make.

The most important information is that your experience as a patient in this program will continue as before, with only a change to your point of contact from Dr. Renney to Dr. Phillip Phan. The screening, testing, blocks, specialty consults and surgery will be the same, all the coordination will now be with Dr. Phillip Phan. Please call his office directly at 832-553-1336 for appointments. Dr. Phillip Phan has been given all of the information needed to assist you. Again, all of your contact will go through Dr. Phillip Phan now.

On behalf of Dr. Renney, MOST wishes you all the best as you go through treatment for this difficult condition.

Phillip Phan MD
7700 Main Street # 400
Houston, TX 77030

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Violet,

I have been diagnosed with PN by Dr. Antolak in MN. I have received 2 of the 3 pudendal nerve injections. It has helped some, but I believe that surgery may be imminent. Although Dr. Antolak offers the surgery, I feel that the Houston team is my best option for a cure (in my opinion, of course).

I have already spoken to Dr. Renney on the phone. He agreed that my symptoms to sound like PN or PNE, and agreed to set up an appointment for me to be seen by the Houston team.

My question is, will I be able to speak or be in contact with Dr. Renney at all? As many of the people that browse the forum know, he actually has had the surgery himself. To me, he is invaluable help to those suffering with this - not only has he suffered and underwent surgery, but he's also a medical doctor. He is one of the big reasons I chose the Houston team to begin with, for his first-hand knowledge, and also his medical knowledge.
Thank you for your time.

Mike, as I understand it, if you are already set up to communicate with Dr. Renney by Telehealth Connection he will continue to follow your case. I think this refers to new patients who are just starting out with the Houston team.

I've heard from several sources that patients who wish to see Dr. Lee Ansell have to be seen by Dr. Ioannis Skaribis who is a pain doctor before they can see Dr. Ansell. http://choosenopain.com/index.php/physi ... ibas-md-2/

Does anyone know what the process is for out-of-town patients and how long the stay is?

I'm still waiting to be contacted by their office but I believe he does the a block so one would need to stay longer than a day. I was told that is one of their concerns when scheduling appointment-getting the most of the visit in a good time frame.

1st day- consultation with Dr. Skaribas and MRI (using the software and protocol from Hollis Potter, I think)
2nd day- Popeney and PT
3rd day- pudendal nerve block

Thanks Rea,

I contacted both Dr. Ansell and Dr. Skaribis to see if they could give us their new protocol so that we can list it on the homepage but have not heard back from either of them. I'm sure they are very busy so any information you can give us on the protocol is very helpful.

Best,

Violet

Someone recently posted on the forum that Dr. Ansell is no longer doing PNE surgery. Not sure who you should see in Houston now if you want treatment.
