Re: Best Exercise for swimming.
Swimming has been a key part of my PN recovery process. A lot of people say that swimming is great but don't swim breaststroke with frog kicks, else you'll end up worse. Personally, I have found frog kicks to be very important, but naturally it's something that needs to be done with caution and only you can decide if the nerve is ready for it.
Pain started Aug 2008 after prolonged sitting.
Referal to Dr Natasha Curran Nov 2008.
First Nerve Block Jan 2009.
Second Nerve Block Feb 2009.
Physiotherapy Feb 2009.
Started practicing sitting four times a day with the amount being increased by 10% each week:-
Feb 2009: 5 seconds x 4
Nov 2009: 1 minute x 4
Dec 2010: 1 hour x 4
July 2011: 3 hours x 4 (cured)
Had relapse in March 2012.
Sitting normally again October 2013. No pudendal pain, but some lingering muscle tightness.

what styles of swimming is ok to do everyday? is kicking while swimming safe?
Re: Best Exercise for swimming.
I do front call freestyle with a very light kick. You can also put a float between your legs and just use arms.Leilaa wrote:what styles of swimming is ok to do everyday? is kicking while swimming safe?

... whats the use of swimming if u cant use your normal body muscles? I can b doing arm workouts
Is it bad to kick due to the pain or due to muscle and tone growth? If it doesnt hurt is it safe to swim by kicking? or max we can do is float with splashing arms?

.... so is it ok to swim in a normal manner safely? For body ...joint .. muscle tone? or is this bad . I feel so stiff everywhere... this cant b good.. I think u all should just try swimming slowly for an hour ... if u lack muscle tone elsewhere wouldnt your body just fail altogether? u surely need tone and strength.... U cant strengthen up by not doing anything... how old are u all? Can u guys tell me your age? and weight? or if some of u underweight? overweight? short ? tall? have other medical problems?

I used to have muscle in my thighs ass abs.. it all went away....can anyone plssss just tell me your age ..etc?? Im not a stalker I just want to c what age range and body type it effects .. maybe we have a pattern ...

Re: Best Exercise for swimming.
Sorry to say I cannot give you a good answer on exercising but hoping others who have been more involved and found how and what to do once they got PN will respond. I honestly was never an exerciser and I know that is not good and it now seems to have more of an affect on me post PNE surgery. I do the exercises PT tells me to do but no other. Predominantly I blame the chronic foot pain I have had since age 26 and I am now 51years old, 5' 3" tall and 145 lbs. Technically I should lose some weight to fit the charts but with the 2 ailments getting through thhe day is challenge enough, working and doing essental cooking, etc. So I am accepting the weight and watch my diet to maintain mt current weight and keep the constipation away. I am not really into swimming which they wanted me to just get water exercises not actually swimming and I would need to be trained in what was okay for PN. It is just a lot to add to a day where I just barely or not always make it through the 8 hours of work. I hope you find a way to get in better shape without the flare ups.

2007-08 pelvic muscles spasms treated by EGS. 6/27/10 sat too long on hard chair- spasms, EGS not work Botox help, cortisone shots in coccyx help, still pain, PT found PNE & sent me to Dr Marvel nerve blocks & MRN, TG left surgery 5/9/11. I have chronic bunion pain surgery at age 21. TG gave me back enough sitting to keep my job & join in some social activities. I wish the best to everyone! 2019 luck with orthotics from pedorthist & great PT allowing me to get off oxycodone.
Re: Best Exercise for swimming.
thnx Janet... Did your symptoms get worse in time or is it all the same?
Re: Best Exercise for swimming.
My PNE symptoms were getting worse over time and I was ruuning out of time I could get off work because I was no longer able to work full time so I decided I had to get the surgery to hopefully get better and save my job. The surgery improved my ability to work but also took out some capabilities due to pelvic instability and I guess weakness of the nerve causing pain on lifting. Working on strengthening my core to make up for the cut ligament to stop the pelvic instability along with chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture. I am able to sit and work longer than before surgery and trying to find workarounds and ways to do some things I use to do. I did manage some baking this weekend despite the limitations and gave some pumpkin bread to the PTs who have been with me for the past 2 years. A much needed session today after the baking. One thing I miss is bringing stuff into work as I can barely carry in the purse and lunch and baked goods are usually not very light. My desk is at the back corner of the building so a bit of a long haul. At least I can make some for my hubby and am cutting recipes down to smaller amounts, less work and less to have around the house.
