Re: 11 months postpartum -- pn due to childbirth ?
Welcome and sorry if this turns out to be your fate but until you are formally diagnosed please stay off the bike! Also if it hurts don not do it and I know that may mean limiting lifting your children. I cannot begin to completely understand since I decided not to have children because I did not think I could take care of them. This was due to chronic foot pain before I got PNE. Anyway it does pay to get help sooner than later from what I read. I am post surgery (may 2011) and the major continous pain started end of June 2010. The faqs on the homepage give you steps to get a diagnosis and start lowering you pain. I know it is scary but focusing on figuring it out and ways to fix it will help. I agree with both the loss of big and little or just something you do not want to lose. It upset me to have to go gray because I can not lie down for rinsing it out or even wrap it or color at home because standing in the shower I could not see when it was all clear ( eye sight is not the best). Why should this be a big thing because I have had chronic foot pain for 20+ years and they are probably 80 years old then PNE and the non-gray hair made me feel closer to or earlier than my actual 51 years old vice 90+. I am getting past that and you will have the strength to handle your changes whatever they may be. Hang in there, get startedon a plan and try to keep positive , remember you have a support group here to listen, sympathize and help. Take Care

Re: 11 months postpartum -- pn due to childbirth ?
Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on two little ones! As Janetm2 said, if it hurts don't do it esp. since you are in the early stages of figuring out exactly what the problem is. You might want to find a good pelvic floor PT in your area and start with this approach. They can address alignment issues and help with trigger point internal massage to see if that helps. Others on the forums who have seen Dr. Jordan can share their experience with him.

Re: 11 months postpartum -- pn due to childbirth ?
I would agree with the others that it is important for you to start seeing a PT who specializes in pelvic floor conditions. Maybe it's just your pelvic floor muscles acting up, in which case internal massage can fix it. It is surprising how painful those muscles can be! There is a list of such PTs on this website.
The fact that you are not experiencing pain when sitting is very promising. Without this symptom it is even doubtful that you have PN. Painful sitting is the hallmark of PN.
And don't despair if your condition develops into PN. Treatment for this condition is evolving every day. But for now it would be wise to limit your biking and running until you get a definitive diagnosis. You are lucky that you are a swimmer!
Take care.

Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Pelvic pain life coach Lorraine Faendrich helped me overcome the mind/body connection to chronic pain: http://www.radiantlifedesign.com

the fact that I have no pain from sitting is a good sign? That's good.
My next question, can you have pudendal nerve damage with having pudendal neuralgia?
I just got in touch with a pt yesterday that does this type of work, she said we should definitely give it a college try.

Re: 11 months postpartum -- pn due to childbirth ?
There are some excellent PT's in Southern California -- did you see our list of PT's? Just wanted to mention how important it is to see someone who is trained specifically to treat pudendal neuralgia.
I've heard Dr. Jordan is excellent when it comes to nerve blocks and botox but I'm not sure you are to that point. You may want to stick with the least invasive things first like PT. I've not heard of caudals being effective for PN, unfortunately.
PN won't necessarily get worse, especially if you are careful and proactive in getting treatment. You might want to consider pain medication before your brain gets into a cycle of pain with permanent changes to the brain and spinal cord. You can always go off the meds after your musculoskeletal issues have been addressed.
Best,
Violet

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
