Hi Griff,
It would be better if you have the 3 Tesla MRI with Dr. Potter. This MRI report doesn't mention neither the ligaments nor the Alcock's Canal or the branches of the Pudendal nerve. What does the radiologist mean by the path of the nerve?

Best Regards,
Ali
Diagnosed for PNE by Dr. Jerome Weiss in June 2007.Started PT with Amy Stein in NYC.
PT for almost 3 years now without any results.
Pudendal Nerve blocks in August,2007 by Dr. Quesda left me with sitting pain.
Unilateral TIR approach with Dr. Bautrant on 18 Febuary,2010 with no major improvements and sitting is much worse.
MRI By Dr. Potter reveals nerve entrapment in the ST,AC and DN.
Dorsal Nerve Decompression surgery on April 8,2011
Redo surgery by Dr. Hibner on July 18,2011

Griff,

I see from your history that you have already had 3 nerve blocks with several hours of relief. If you are talking about pudendal nerve blocks then you can be rather confident about your self diagnosis. I am not clear though what kind of blocks you have had and who did them. I am inclined to think that perhaps before you make any more appointments you should think about where you would want to go should you decide on surgery as there are different requirements depending on who you decide on.

Best wishes,
Jeanie
Diagnosed with left side PN by Dr Renney, March 2010, after over 2 years of searching for help

Grif,
Please do your research and consult with different doctors and different approaches to surgery ,before rushing into surgery.Make sure that your ligaments are repaired after surgery, because you don 't want to have your ligaments severed for no good reason. There is a high possibility that you might have Pelvic instability if your ligaments aren't repaired.

All the best,
Ali

I agree with Jeanie. If you get diagnostics from a surgeon whose method you don't want to have, then you could have to repeat the diagnostics with the surgeon that you choose based on method. Save yourself time, money, and discomfort by minimizing do-overs.

I do appreciate your desire to have a diagnosis completed by a doctor soon...but this situation isn't like other ones you have been through.
PNE as a result of childbirth, 2002. Treatment by the Houston team, with neurosurgery by Dr. Ansell in 2004. My left side ST and SS ligaments were found to be grown together, encasing the pudendal nerve.

I am cured. I hope you will be, too.

There are no medical answers on the forum. Your only hope is to go to a doctor. I was very happy with the Houston team, which has treated the most PNE patients (well over 400), more than any other US provider.

Thanks for all the input. This is my plan at the moment. I plan to call my dr and ask him to contact dr potter and ask her to read the scan. I do not have faith in the radiologist that read it because she did not make any comments about the ligaments or the pudendal canal. I wonder what she thinks is causing my sitting pain?!

I spoke with dr Conway yesterday and plan on calling his office next week for an appt so that I can have the EMG test done. I am NOT considering surgery at this time because I don't even have a diagnosis. If I were to need surgery my top pick would be hibner but I do not want to wait 6-8 months for an appt with him in order to have diagnostic tests done.

Sounds like a good plan, Griff. Dr. Conway is one of the nicest people I've ever met and more than willing to help people in any way he can. I wish he did TG surgery. Best wishes with your plan. Please keep us updated!
Warmest regards,
Karyn

He doesn't even do diagnostics, he just goes by history.

Who told Celeste that Dr. Hibner doesn't do diagnostic tests and just goes by history. This is not a fact at all.

Dr. Hibner himself did, in the article that he published this past winter.
