Lyrica questions

Post by kat »

For those of you on Lyrica:

Did it make you tired, disoriented and unable to carry a conversation?
The docs keep uping the dose and I love that it takes some of the burning away so I don't want to stop taking Lyrica.
That said, I can't drive on it because it makes me confused and very cloudy in my head. I also get dizzy on it and can hardly stay awake after I take a dose.

I have been on it a little over a month with it slowly increasing throughout that time and the side affects are getting worse.

How long did it take for any of you to get over the side affects?
How long do I keep making myself druged up on the Lyrica before I know if my body can handle it or not?

I know any replies are just guesses, but I'm just trying to figure this out because the pain is better, but I'm so sick on the Lyrica that I'm not sure it is a good trade off.

I've also been given a two-week trial pack of it, but I'm leery of taking it for just those reasons (I need my car to drive to both of my jobs), and also because depression is a known side effect, as well as suicide attempts and harming oneself.. I'm pretty depressed because of all the health issues I've encountered this year, so don't want to add to the depression. I doubt that I'd get loopy enough to harm myself..

I have one major issue to deal with in a few hours, but I'm contemplating starting it Thursday night after work.. That should give me ample time before I have to drive to see how it's going to affect me. If I can't handle it, I may ask the doc for something else for my pain instead..

Have you levelled out any since you've posted, kat?

Hi there

I have been taking Lyrica for over two years now for my PN and i think it is marvellous and I couldn't function the way I do without it. Listening to your posts it reminds me of the side effects I also went through at the beginning, but for me these have got better the longer I have been on it. I drive my car and hold down a part time office job (for which I stand up most of the time). I still have slow reactions and I find that I cannot think sometimes of the words I want to use in conversation or communications as quickly as I did before. Occasionally if I get overtired then I seem to have a 'double effect' on that because of the Lyrica and my vision can become 'spaced out' and I feel incredibly tired. I can drink alcohol though in moderation as long as it's not the strong stuff. It's just remembering that any effects on your body will be 'double' because of the medication.

My best advise is to keep trying with it, things do get better as your body gets used to what you have hit it with. I think your brian does not know how to cope with it at first and as you increase the dose, then the side effects return for a while.
I take 150mg twice a day morning and night and must admit that I found the reverse on the depression issue, it definately helps with my anxiety. I would say give it a chance, as we all know anything to do with your nerves reaction to changes will take a while.

Hope this give you some positive feelings.

Cheers

Lyrica has really helped get through the day. Side effects (drowsiness mainly) would go up for awhile after increasing dosage and then recede. I vary my dosage between 450-600 mg. per day and have been taking it for one year. I would be a lot worse off without it, that's for sure.
