Hi
In all the 3 years I've had this problem I have never seen any postings of people having pain from a bath or shower. I have found that having a bath is impossible for me and causes major spasm issues causing a big flare up.Showers are a lot better but still cause me pain but not untill a few hours after having one. So the question is does any one elses have similar issues im just curious and as mentioned I hadnt ever seen any one else discuss this topic.

Showering and bathing
Re: Showering and bathing
I have increased pain with a warm bath - lots of people seem to get pain relief from having a nice soak, not me, I get a flare instead. It has occurred to me that perhaps if someone has a significant issue with muscle tension adding to the pain, then the warm bath may help with relaxation and so help to reduce pain - but for me it has always caused increased pain since I started to have PN. Showers, no problem.

I wake up at around 5:50 in the morning and get ready for work and after a shower I almost always feel increased discomfort. Not sure if its the temperature or what but on the weekends when I shower a little bit after waking up (like an hour or so) it doesn't seem to bother me as much. I think I am going to try a cooler shower tomorrow, I'll post my findings.

I know people who also have worsening of pain from warm baths. It depends on where your exact entrapment is as to if baths affect your pain or not. I take a warm bath and it helps, but you may also want to try a warm shower or heating pad if you are unable to take a warm bath. Heat helps to relax the muscles, nerves, and can sometimes help with pain.

Re: Showering and bathing
No heat for me. When my pain gets really intolerable, I use ice packs. A hot bath would be the worst thing for me. I have a lot of genital swelling, and heat makes that worse.
In the shower, I turn down the heat when I rinse that area. I have to be really careful not to get soap, shampoo, or conditioner there, as those things cause increased burning, even though all my products are non-scented, gentle and hypoallergenic. I am more sore after showers simply because I have to stand too long, as well as water and towels aggravating things. I have to lie down for an hour afterwards to let things settle again.
I have increased pain every time I pee, from wiping and sitting. Basically, anything that disturbs the area gets it going. Having my legs too close together seems to squish the area, increases heat, and increases pain. This includes sleeping on my side, with knees bent and legs together.
So, every little thing is a challenge with this problem - even personal hygiene - a nice hot shower that everyone loves - makes me worse.... And I used to have a hot tub in the back yard! Those were the good old days....
