stretches
stretches
So I've read you shouldn't do certain stretches with PN like a piraformis stretch, but what stretching can you do? I have a lot of pain after walking around the ischial tuberosity where my hamstring starts. I don't know if this is from PN pain or my pelvic "instability" issues. Interestingly it's on the same side as my SI joint "dysfunction". Can I do any stretches for my hamstring or calves? I get a lot of foot pain that I think may be from tight calf muscles (kind of like plantar fasciitis).
-11/08 vulvodynia began around conception of first & only pregnancy
-3/10 sacral/sitting pain began after SIJD manipulation
-Progressive widespread pain- central sensitization
-PT, meds, injections, botox, ESWT = debilitated.
-5/12 Potter MRI - scarring of left ST, coccygeous & posterior alcock
-12/12 - left FAI/labral hip tear surgery
2014-2019 managed w/ gabapentin, massage, and lifestyle mod
2020 - big flare up

Re: stretches
Faith, calf stretches might be fine but if you have a true entrapment hamstrings might be a bit of a problem. Anything that stretches the pelvic floor muscles has the potential for causing a stretch injury to the nerve if the nerve is entrapped in fascia or compressed between the ligaments. My PN pain was also worst on the side that had the worst SI ligament problems. It's possible your pelvic instability issues are the cause or may be contributing to your PN pain. If your piriformis muscle is in spasm it could impinge on the sciatic nerve and cause leg/foot pain. I had a lot of aching in my foot and leg before my PNE surgery.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
