Post by Lenny33 »

Hi, I have been taking amitryptyline/elavil that my doc prescribed nearly a year ago. I am on 10mg daily so low dose. Am worried that I might have to come of this medication as been on so long. Can anyone tell me how long can take this for?

Hi

Im on 20mg of Endep, & I think there is no harm in being on them for years. Its helped me with the pain greatly. In saying that I have not been offically diagnosed with PN. I have a few symptoms that put me into a lot of differnt catergories. I just know it helps with my pain (stabbing & sharp pains in pelvic area) If i come off it & it returns Im happy to be on such a low dose for however long I need to be

All the best

Lenny, I've been taking amitriptyline since 2004. I started at 30 mg but reduced it over the years to 10 mg. The pain relief seems to be the same regardless of whether I'm on the higher or lower dose; needless to say I'm much sharper on the lower dose. I can't see myself coming off this drug in the near future. The only side effect has been that of a dry mouth.
Pudendal neuralgia, diagosed as ischial bursitis, from 1985. Worsened by fall in 2003. Bilateral TG surgery in Nantes 2004. Nerve flattened both sides. No improvement, still cannot sit.
