Problem standing up

Post by fysiopysio »

Hi!

I am wondering if other PN-sufferers has pain worsened when standing up? When I have pain, it gets much worse if I walk or is just standing. This make it impossible for me to do anything! Is this a common problem when having PN? ( I have not gotten a diagnose jet). It feels like the pressure from my stomach( because of the gravity) makes the pain worse..

When PN first strikes, usually there is relief from pain when standing. But when PN becomes chronic (I've had it now for two years), standing no longer provides instant relief and in fact prolonged standing can aggravate it. I find that I can stand (or walk) for only about half an hour before the pain starts in the perineum. I believe the force of gravity pulls the internal organs down onto the nerve which irritates it further.

I'm really sorry you are experiencing this, fysiopysio, and hope that you are finding some answers on this site to help you make some treatment decisions.
Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). I agree with Lernica -- when PN became chronic standing and walking were difficult.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

ditto. Walking even around my neighborhood, maybe 1/4 of a mile, leaves me with pain hours later. And I soooo love to stroll with my baby!

I now have that problem only after a few minutes. Some can walk for miles.

I find that if I stand and lean on things I can manage better, not the ideal situation I know but it helps.
Take care,

In the same boat these days! For the first 3 years I was able to stand at work for 8+ hours a day, but no more. So now, I can't sit for more then 10-15min and stand for more than half hour comfortably.

Paulsa,

Are you still working? How, given your current limitations? What's next in your treatment plan?

Still working, I'm fortunate to work for a large company and have a boss that is very understanding. I currently work two days a week from home and 3 half days in the office then the rest of the day at home. I will hopefully be going to visit Dr. Beco in November/December. How about you?

1. I'm exploring the shockwave option in Cornwall. I've completed all Dr. Andrew's forms and am waiting to hear back from him.
2. When I see Dr. Gordon on Nov. 1, I'll be asking for a script for a Dr. Potter MRI.
3. Am considering the surgical option, thinking about Hibner.

For two years I have "watched and waited". I'm getting worse. I have to take action.

Why did you choose Beco?
