Car update

Post by polarbear »

Hi everyone,

I sat sideways in the front passenger seat ( with feet elevated), for the first time in 9 years. Felt great, all ok as of tonight. Have not picked a new vehicle yet, but trying a few more. Likely a Toyota.

Good for you, Gail. Just ignore anyone who looks at you like you are crazy and do what you have to do to be comfy. ;)
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Ha ha ha. My hubby is used to truckers looking down from their cabs wondering whether he is driving a d.b. to the dump. I push the passenger seat WAAAYYY back, put my feet up on the dash, and lie basically flat as the car floor. I do this on either my back or tummy. It sucks having no view but having no pain while travelling is well worth it.

P.S. We have a van, a Honda Odyssey, with lots of room for fully reclined seats. Don't know if you can do this in a car.
Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Pelvic pain life coach Lorraine Faendrich helped me overcome the mind/body connection to chronic pain: http://www.radiantlifedesign.com

Been there, ladies! It's great fun, feet up on the dash, in a skirt with no underwear..... Or starting the trip with underwear, and having to take it off while on the road - and there's always a darned Semi in the next lane during these acrobatics!

We have a Ford Windstar, and I find the seat does not recline anywhere near enough. I use the air cushion from my wheelchair which is about 6 inches high, and that has the effect of flattening out my position and makes me a little higher to look out the window.
