Cars

Post by polarbear »

Hi everyone,

I need to lay in the back seat of a car when going out. I can not sit in capacity.

My husband is looking for a suitable car/SUV with a bench seat in the back and not to high to step up into. We currently have an Accord, but am looking for something more comfortable.

What vehicles do you use, and do you need to lay in the backstreet?

I love my suburban but I wouldn't say it has a low step. Maybe you could use a stool to step up. I've spent many trips lying down in either the middle or the back seat. We have a camper and the camper cushions fit perfectly on the suburban seats for long trips.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hi Violet,

Thanks for the tips. My husband will bring home another vehicle Monday to try . I will tell him about the Suburban. It's good to hear that you found a comfortable way to lay in the SUV (camper cushions).

I might even try reclining the passenger seat, lay on my side and prop my feet up on a box or something.

The many challenges of pne. Thanks for being there.

Not the most stylish and glamorous vehicles but minivans have a very low step, have huge sliding doors and are very comfortable. I am thinking about the Toyota Sienna, Chrysler T&C or equivalent.
Regarding the quality of seats and the ergonomics, nobody beats Sweden: Volvo and Saab make by far the most PNE friendly car seats.
2002 PN pain started following a fall on a wet marble floor
2004 Headache in the pelvis clinic. Diagnosed with PNE by Drs. Jerome Weiss, Stephen Mann, and Rodney Anderson
2004-2007 PT, Botox, diagnosed with PNE by Dr. Sheldon Jordan
2010 MRN and 3T MRI showing PNE. Diagnosed with PNE by Dr. Aaron Filler. 2 failed PNE surgeries.
2011-2012 Horrific PN pain.
2013 Experimented with various Mind-body modalities
3/2014 Significantly better
11/2014 Cured. No pain whatsoever since

We have a toyota sienna van. The third row seats fold down flat. The second row seats are removable. Then we put a twin mattress in the back and there's still room for luggage and other items. I use a wedge pillow to prop me up a bit. I also use a body pillow on my side and then curl it up under the backs of my knees. The side doors slide open for plenty of room to get out.

I have to agree with that most Swedish cars are soo comfy and offer support yet greater comfort than other cars.
When Im in a car I recline the seat and use many pillows around me so that I can lie on one side.
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the suggestions, very helpful. I thought I was the only person laying in the backseat of a car, until I found this group.

We are in this together!
