pillow to lay on your back without sacral burning

Post by kat »

I found that using a neck pillow, like the ones sold in Walgreens to put around your neck for plane rides works well for laying on my back.

My sacrum can't handle anything other than underwear touching it and I sleep on my back. I put the pillow around my sacrum so the open part is up towards the spine and the fluffy middle is under my butt.
It allows me to lay on my back without the back spasms and burning I have.

It isn't perfect, and you have to mess with the placement and thickness of the pillow, but for 10 bucks I can sleep for up to 4 hours at a time which I haven't done in years so I wanted to share this with you all.

Thank you Kat for that tip. To lift the sacrum from pressure and get a good sleep is so helpful. I sleep on my front with my head to the side but I always wake up with terrible sacral pain and a stiff neck. I do however get a great sleep with pillows all around me, both sides and one for my right leg to rest upon. I actually swapped my queen bed for two king single beds. It works out well as we both get a good sleep and that helps a lot.

Kat,

Thanks for the tip! Have you tried applying a 5% lidocaine patch to your sacrum? On Merrie's advice, I have been using it for two weeks now and I find it very very helpful for sacral pain. You apply it for twelve hours at a time. The patch is not yet available in my country but is available in the U.S.

Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Lernica- I'm so glad the lidoderm is helping! And kat I'm going to try the pillow - thanks for the suggestion!
