Appointment w/ Dr. Hibner

Post by jamiegross »

I made an appointment with Dr. Hibner over a month ago that takes place in September.. Since then, I have received the diagnosis of Pudendal Neuralgia, not entrapment, from an excellent doctor that Ive found abroad.. Since, i already have my diagnosis and there isnt much treatment for it besides PT and meds (im not a candidate for botox), is there a point to keep this appointment ? I'd obviously love to go regardless because it would be great to speak with him, but I could potentially give that appointment to someone who needs it, and if theres nothing he can really do for me, whats the point?

Hi Jamie,

You are right -- it wouldn't seem necessary to see a surgeon if you are sure you aren't entrapped but usually it's difficult to know for sure if you have an entrapment until after surgery. Are you pretty confident with the conclusion that you don't have an entrapment?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Violet,

-Its so hard to trust any doctor because I've been told what I have and don't have many many times and they have been wrong.. the doctor I am seeing is the best in the Southern Hemispere and other patients that have scene him have told me to trust him, so I do.. but theres always that chance that he could be wrong..

Hi Jamie,

So what does your doctor think the neuralgia is due to? Is the nerve just irritated? I've been told so many different things to by different doctors and not sure who to believe. I feel like everyone is just throwing out their best theories (at least in my case) and no one really knows for sure.
Newly diagnosed PN sufferer (March 2011) caused from a very difficult childbirth in Jan 2011 (1st baby). On Neurontin and Nucynta. Tried PT & accupuncture. Restarting PT with Julie Sarton. Appt with Dr. Castellanos in June. Sitting very painful and also unable to stand or walk without pain.

NewMom, I sent you another PM yesterday; don't know if you got it.
Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Pelvic pain life coach Lorraine Faendrich helped me overcome the mind/body connection to chronic pain: http://www.radiantlifedesign.com

Hey Newmom,

My doctor believes that the nerve is just irritated, perhaps by an overactive muscle.. i just got botox yesturday so am eager to see what the results will be like! if his theory is right, it seems that this would be very helpful for me because it will calm that overactive muscle

Jamie, I hope that Botox helps and that your doctor is right about the overactive muscle. If Botox doesn't help, the next question for the doctor who says you have an overactive muscle is to ask him what he thinks is causing it to be overactive. Sometimes a damaged or entrapped nerve causes the muscle to be overactive or it could be a structural problem such as a pelvic misalignment.

Keep us posted Jamie! I'm interested in seeing what your doctor says. Is he a neurologist? I've seen so many types of docs all with different theories/advice. Hope you're doing well!
