Re: OBGYNs and other doctors seem unaware

I had the same experience with gyns who do not specialize in pelvic pain and the doctor I see at this time related to my pelvic pain is also a urologist. I know of some people who have had good luck with urogyns recognizing PN symptoms, so that is a n option too. I'm glad you found someone who has a...

Re: Itching

Pain_Darren,

Itching can be a symptom of nerve dysfunction. I occasionally have it with PN. In addition to PN I have had had obturator neuralgia off and on over the years (the nerve innervates a small spot on the inner thigh) and in that case, itching is my only symptom.

Re: New here

I have also thought there could be an underlying issue affecting the pudendal nerve that is asymptomatic but coming off an antidepressant makes it symptomatic.

Re: failed pelvic floor therapy ...

Marky, Your symptoms could be pudendal neuralgia. I am familiar with the 24/7 kind of pain you describe and I’m sorry you are dealing with it too. I did years of PT with very knowledgeable therapists and found it only caused my pain to increase. PT can be helpful when muscle tension is the underlyin...

Re: New Here, Hello All

It sounds like your symptoms are in the distribution of the pudendal nerve. In my opinion, PT is worth a good try but if you find it isn’t helping after a couple of months or your symptoms are increasing from the PT I think it is worth reconsidering with your doctor. I also think MRIs of the lumbar ...

Re: Loss sensation to urinate

Hove31, What parts of your spine were imaged? Did the doctors include your pelvis/sacrum? Also, I have found that different doctor see different things as important on MRIs. Do you know a knowledgeable doctor who may be able to look at your images and give you a second opinion? I am sorry you are go...

Re: Possible PGAD and needing support!!

Ayanna28, I am so sorry for all you have been through. I agree with Violet’s suggestion for an evaluation with a pelvic PT. Perhaps there is a muscular issue putting pressure on the PN and causing your PGAD or you have SI joint dysfunction. I also think for PGAD that an MRI of the pelvis is a good i...

Re: my PT rectal

Marky, From what I have gathered from PTs, relief should be significant in the first three months of therapy. I also think an MRI of the pelvis is a good idea to rule in/out other conditions and also to look at sacrum, the lowest part of the spine, especially the sacral nerve roots. Some end up find...

Re: my PT rectal

Marky,

In my experience, PN can cause the pain you describe. I suppose it could also be muscular. If your pain is primarily muscular, I think you will see at least some improvement through the PT within a few weeks.

Re: UTI causing PN?

SummerChild, I think if you can find a knowledgable doctor willing to look I’ve your imaging it would be a good idea to get a second opinion. I have found that different doctors see different things as important and sometimes radiologists consider some potential issues to be “incidental findings” an...
